Solid ambergris resinoid is a concentrate of ambergris stripped of its impurities (squid ink and beaks, sand) by a process of extraction, filtration and re-crystallization of the amberin.
The resinoid contains over 80% amberin.
As the resinoid is 100% pure, it can be added directly to an alcoholic perfume or oil (attar), dissolving completely and requiring no filtration.
ATTENTION : For your information, the majority of ambergris sellers on Etsy and on social networks offer pieces of solid fat from sewage that are common on beaches and regularly confused with ambergris by novices.
This greasy substance is often odorous because it contains detergent residues, and can also be toxic.
Be cautious, and don't rely on the reviews of customers who have never had the chance to appreciate real sperm whale ambergris.
Here are a few distinguishing characteristics that can help you recognize this fat of human origin :
- very FRESH to the touch (easily visible in some photos)
- often immaculate white color, inside and out
- inclusions of plant organic matter such as fruit seeds or cereal debris
- inclusions of organic matter of human origin, such as hair
- smell of soap, washing-up liquid or detergent
